Riding on the success of the "work-based learning project” for the intellectual disabled youth, we expanded it to include the ethnic minority youth in the last year. With the support from a multi-national corporation, "Project Shine”, a mentoring scheme was piloted to provide a series of self-understanding workshop, adventurous training and work-based learning sessions for a group of selected ethnic minority youths in order to build up their personal and social capacity. The project successfully offered a real-life experience for them to work in commercial world and inspired them to have dreams for themselves when they grow up.
Despite Hong Kong is a world-class city, many underprivileged children, such as the ones with special needs, disabilities, from ethnic minorities groups or low-income class and their families are still suffered from social isolation, contempt and inequality in their daily lives. An inclusive society is a long-term endeavor which required every citizens to embrace it. TREATS, as the pioneer in promoting social inclusion in Hong Kong, will continue to improve such condition for students with special educational needs (SEN), ethnic minorities children and their families, in order to let them live and participate in an inclusive society.
